Well, here it is. 2010. Another year for each of us to embrace and create the life we want for ourselves.
I've been talking about wanting to start a blog for over 8 months. Between worrying about which platform is best then worrying about what template and theme to use, I've really really procrastinated. Luckily I found
about a week ago and decided it's perfect for me to get started. Few options and no set up. I love it!
Now that I'm finally starting this, I have a million topics and ideas I want to share with the world. It's a bit overwhelming. I'm committing to posting once a week for now. Part of me telling you that is so that I actually follow through. It helps me to make a public commitment. If you're stuck on finding motivation for completing something - try it, it works.
Over the past 18 months I have emerged myself in motivational material from Timothy Ferris's "The Four Hour Work Week" to David Shwartz's "The Magic of Thinking Big." I discovered
TED conferences and
Philosopher's Notes. I feel like I've discovered the key to personal success and happiness and I want to make a copy of that key for anyone that wants it.
My next soapbox is taking care of our environment. I love being absorbed in nature. There's nothing more spiritual for me than sitting silently in a serene place enjoying the songs of the birds, watching as a squirrel collects nuts, and just taking in all the beauty our creator put on this earth. It saddens me that there are people who have never seen the stars or been outside of their state. I am changing this one person at a time. I get pure enjoyment by introducing others to nature. Taking newbies out rock climbing and ice climbing is a passion of mine. I also love introducing them to backpacking, kayaking, and skydiving.
My husband and I have been planning a roadtrip around the US. We leave in May. We'll be driving a vegetable oil powered truck. There are so many incredible sites in this country that we want to visit. National Parks rank high on our list and we have a big tick list of outdoor adventures we plan to embrace. Plus, there's a lot of great cities we want to explore as well. We are so excited to experience the different cultures and cuisine that make up our big melting pot. I guess I'll put this out there - if you're an environmentally conscious company looking for some advertising or something similar - we should chat. We're brainstorming ideas on how to make the biggest positive impact with our trip. We'll be a big moving billboard, but I'm comfortable with public speaking, etc.
I'll close today by sharing a little story about our first business/muse.
www.theworldsbestfruit.com We're foodies - that means we love trying new food, recipes, etc. We had heard about miracle fruit - a berry that temporarily tricks your taste buds so that anything sour tastes sweet. We tracked some down, loved it, and showed our friends and family this amazing fruit. More and more people kept asking us if we could buy them some next time we picked some up for ourselves. About 2 months later
www.theworldsbestfruit.com was born and it's given us the courage to quit our jobs and follow our dreams.
On a side note, if you're looking for some encouragement and ideas on how to do this -
here's 15 videos (including ours) that will inspire you.
My goals for 2010: Some of these are pretty lofty and will require a skyrocket in sales or the addition of a new muse...all of which I'm prepared to tackle.
- Take my parents and inlaws on an Alaskan cruise. Its someplace I know they'll love, but will probably never go to on their own.
- Rent
this mansion on Top Sail Beach for two weeks and run a contest to throw an all expense paid wedding for one lucky winner and 75 guests. (I've wanted to do this ever since a friend of my had her wedding there.) The second week I want to invite my friends and relatives to come live like rockstars!
- Donate 10K to the
Ouray Ice Park. I love this place (though I'm not fond of their new website) and want to see it continue to thrive and grow.
That's it for today. I'm really thankful I decided to start this. I think it's going to be fun. I hope you enjoy it as well. Have a GREAT day!
